Getting started How to get started using this?

Hello,

I downloaded and installed Calc4Web. It appeared to install dozens, maybe hundreds, of files on my system, including the C compiler I selected.

There were no instructions on how or where to start, either with the installation or online, that I can find.

There was no instance of Calc4Web in my Start menu (as a newly installed program) -- but I checked and found two Calc4Web buttons in Excel's Add-in section.

So, I appear to be up and running. I now have two questions before my 5-day trial expires --

1) How do I compile an entire spreadsheet I have designed into an application? I have no idea how to get started doing this, and the dialog boxes that appear when I click on Calc4Web Builder or Calc4Web Configuration buttons that I found in the add-in, offer no hint.

2) Assuming the rest of my experience with Calc4Web is similar to my experience so far, how do I uninstall every trace of it?

Would like to try it first though.

Thanks,
Ivan

Thanks for your questions. There was an email you were sent with the link to download the product. That email also describes how to view the documentation, as well as how to view the Calc4Web tutorial. In addition, you should be receiving a series of emails during your trial with additional tutorials showing you some useful things you can do with Calc4Web.

If you choose to uninstall, you can do it through Add/Remove Programs, or you can simply run the installer again and choose Uninstall.

The e-mail does say: "A manual is included with the distribution... There's also a tutorial to help get you started."

But how do I find these? If a manual was included with the distribution, great -- how do I access it? I can't seem to find it on my system in any directory. Is it accessible through the Excel Add-in menu bar? It does not seem to be.

The e-mail also says: "This trial is a limited version of Calc4Web. It will only allow you to have formulas in cells A1:J10 of Sheet1."

... which means that now I have to spend time learning how to create, and creating, a point application, so that I can see how Calc4Web works, assuming I can locate any of the documentation. Will I also have to create trial VBA macros to be convinced that Calc4Web processes those in the context of the native spreadsheet design (e.g., responsive to buttons, etc., that exist in the macro-enabled Excel file)?

I don't believe this limitation of the trial version was made clear before downloading and installing. Is that true? If so, why wasn't it made clear? This is a time committment in more ways than one at this point, just to try to use the trial.

Thanks for your help.

You have the option of installing Calc4Web to the directory of your choice. This is where the manual and tutorial are copied. If you chose the default, they are in program files\savvysoft\calc4web.

Having the documentation load from the toolbar in Excel is a great suggestion; we'll add that in to the next version.

The trial limitation is written in the email you got with the link to download and install, so certainly if you felt the limitation was too severe, the download and install could have been avoided. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.

While it may seem counter-intuitive, the limitations are there to make the Calc4Web trial more useful for you. In our experience, it takes a little while before the average person has the "Aha!" moment, where they really see and understand what Calc4Web does, and how it can help them. We try to explain it on our Web site, but seeing it in action really brings it home for people. However, if you try to let it loose on your biggest, baddest, workbook on the first try, you're likely to not know where to begin. By starting off with a managable workbook, such as a 10 row by 10 column area, it's much easier to see what's going on. And that's the value of the tutorial, as well: once you see the first couple of examples, which are included with the program, it's obvious within the first few minutes what Calc4Web can, and cannot, do.

Thanks for your comments and suggestions, they truly are appreciated.

Yes -- the step-by-step directions are in a file named "Calc4Web Tutorial.pdf" that is in the Calc4Web directory (by default that's c:\program files\savvysoft\calc4web).

If you can't understand this, or you go through the steps and it still doesn't work, let us know.
